Am I the only person who sees something wrong with the Cameroon entertainment industry or is there something actually wrong with it?We all know that the entertainment industry in Africa has witnessed tremendous boom in recent years esp. countries like Naija, Ghana, Kenya, S.A even Uganda has joined the mold!! We sons and daughters of Camer see this we start asking auestions like where did all these come from? What resources have they got that we don't have?Is it the talent and creativity that we lack here?
We fail to understand that these industries took years and sacrifice to get to this level.I remember the 1st naija movie I ever watched was "Daybreak" in 1998 with Patience Ozokwo and Emeka Ike (dat 1,hmmm still d same as ever),it was good but will talk about dat some othee time. Point is those countries had a head start on us so we do not expect our industry to measure up with them.
First all, this goes to directors and producers:ALWAYS BE PROFFESSIONAL.Look for talent and not look at how good that girl or boy looks and feels on your bed(no calling of names but we know them);or she has a "pweety" face and killer ass.If we want our industry has to be taken seriously then we need to be serious and proffessional about it.
Secondly, this goes to the artist:BE PROFFESSIONAL.The fact that you had a lead role in one or two movies or have a cheesy album out there doesn't make you a celebrity,so stop "showing off and watisaing with your fellow Camer peeps" because it is them you aim to entertain.Rather be down to earth and NETWORK with them because only your viewers will provide a market for your products.Recently,a friend of mine went for this movie premier at Eta Palace and came across one of the actresses(no names of course);what puzzled him was the fact that she said hope he isn't a "paparazi" out to take pics of her and gossip because she knows them. She said all this with a straight face while "watisaing".When he told me I laughed out my lungs because I did not realise we had celebs like Kim Ks in our midst.
Even Kim K it took her a while to build her celeb status,so we should be realistic and build our entertainment industry before we go around calling ourselves celebs and claiming celebrity status.
Finally, this goes to us Camer peeps:if we want our entertainment industry to sit on the same table with the others, then we need to learn how to consume our products and enjoy them.If we do not watch these movies, videos and listen to our own music then who will.We need to encourage our industry by consuming local content and supporting them financially and not only spiritually. If you criticise a production but make no move to support them financially how will it improve.
Not that I'm critic but I want the best for our entertainment industry. So lets join them and make this industry grow. This Camer chic is all for entertainment.Go Peeps!!!!
